KUALA LUMPUR - Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed today he ordered his men to prevent Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad from addressing the audience gathered for a dialogue on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) in the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was to speak.
Khalid, however, denied that the directive was aimed at silencing the former prime minister, saying the police had to stop Dr Mahathir from speaking because the event had already been cancelled.
“Yes, I gave the directive,” Khalid said when asked at a press conference held at the national police headquarters in Bukit Aman here.
“We stopped (it) because once the event has been shut down, it means everything is over,” he added.
