DPP'S SHOCK MURDER: Driver of white Estima may be the only witness
KUALA LUMPUR - The driver of a white Toyota Estima, possibly the only witness to a road accident staged by the abductors of murdered prominent deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais  is sought by police to assist in the probe on the case.
According to Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad, footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras showed the driver stopping his vehicle to see what had happened from close range.
"The accident which happened at about 7.51am is believed to have a link with Kevin's abduction," said Zainuddin.
Police also urged the public who have any information on the road accident that occurred at Jalan Duta Mas on Sept 4 to come forward to assist in the investigations.
He urged the public to contact any nearest police station or call the police hotline at 03-2115999.
In the latest development, Zainuddin said police had detained another individual in connection with the murder, bringing to five the number of suspects arrested so far.
The suspect, 22, was picked up in Kulim, Kedah, a few hours after the discovery of Kevin's body on Tuesday morning.
"The arrest was made at about 5pm, on the same day the body was discovered," he added.
Zainuddin revealed that police had obtained a seven-day remand order on the suspect, who is jobless.
Earlier, police had detained four individuals, including a 52-year-old army doctor at his house in Subang Jaya, a businessman and two mechanics in the Klang Valley, Rawang and Penang.
All the suspects are aged between 22 and 55.
One of the suspects, aged 55, has a previous criminal record for a minor offence.
Meanwhile, Kevin's family members are still waiting for the DNA report of the remains based on samples and data received before they will be allowed to take the body home.
According to his youngest brother Datuk Richard Morais, despite positive identification by the police and postmortem being completed, they have to wait for the DNA test by the hospital.
"Forensics and police haven't released the body yet and it will not be today," he told theSun.
Richard added that he was also unsure when they can claim the body, adding the family has not made any funeral arrangements.
Several reporters were seen outside the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) mortuary waiting for Kevin's family members to arrive to claim the body, but no one turned up.
On Tuesday, police had confirmed the body as that of the missing deputy public prosecutor after recovering his remains in a concrete-filled oil drum in a swampy ravine in USJ 1, Subang Jaya.
The discovery followed the arrest of the army doctor and three others.
The motive for his murder was allegedly to silence him over a corruption case he was handling involving the misappropriation of funds in the acquisition of medical equipment for a military hospital.
Meanwhile, in Sintok, Kedah, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi praised the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for solving the murder Attorney-General Chambers' Appellate and Trial Division deputy chief Anthony Kevin Morais promptly, Bernama reported.
While describing it as a serious high profile case, Ahmad Zahid, said the way the case was handled proved the capability of the police force.
"Although the case was classified as serious crime and the victim's body was found stuffed in a concrete-filled drum which was later dumped into a swamp, the efficiency of the Royal Malaysian Police deserves praise," he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Minister, also called on the police to track down the mastermind in the case, regardless of his background.
"Find the mastermind, even if he is a member of a uniformed body," he said when opening the Malaysia-Thailand Border Management and Safety Seminar 2015 at Dewan Muadzam Shah, Universiti Utara Malaysia, here today. - Sundaily
