Jamal called to Dang Wangi police station for questioning

Malay NGO coalition chief Jamal Md Yunos has been called to meet with police today on the Petaling Street rally planned for tomorrow.
Deputy inspector-general of police Noor Rashid Ibrahim is quoted by Bernama as saying today that Jamal has been called to be at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters this evening, though no time was given.
Earlier, Jamal in a message to his WhatsApp group said he would be meeting the police at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters at 7pm today to cooperate with the police.
"He (Jamal) was asked to come to the IPD (police district headquarters) Dang Wangi this evening to give statement regarding the the Petaling Street rally," Noor Rashid (photo) is quoted as saying by Bernama.
Berita Harian Online also reported that Noor Rashid has declared the rally at Petaling Street, whether held tomorrow or on Sunday, to be illegal and against the law.
He is also reported as saying that police would not compromise with anybody trying to organise or attend the rally and would take a firm action.
"I would like to assert that the police did not allow any rally to be held as no prior notice was given by any organiser," Noor Rashid is quoted as saying by Berita Harian Online.
Jamal, the red shirt rally spokesperson, warned on Wednesday of a possible riot tomorrow if the authorities fail to act, by today, against traders who sell counterfeit goods in the area.
However, in an about-turn today, the Sungai Besar Umno division chief disowned any role in the protest.
"I want to reiterate that I am not involved in the planned rally," he said this afternoon. -Mkini
