Lawyer says his client is being investigated under Section 124C of the Penal Code and will be held overnight at the Dang Wangi police station until a remand order is filed on Saturday.
PETALING JAYA: Sacked Umno Batu Kawan deputy divisional chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan has been arrested by Bukit Aman police on suspicion of attempting to topple the government.
According to a report in Malaysiakini, his lawyer Matthias Chang said his client was taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters and was being investigated under Section 124C of the Penal Code.
“Police have not interrogated him and will hold him overnight. They will file for remand tomorrow morning at 9.30am with the Dang Wangi magistrate,” Chang told the news portal.
Khairuddin’s wife, actress Umie Aida meanwhile told Malaysiakini, “Everything happens for a reason. If you trust in Allah, InsyaAllah, it will all be fine,” she said, explaining that her husband was arrested at their home in Mont Kiara at 7.30pm.
Earlier today Khairuddin posted a Facebook message saying that both he and his lawyer had been banned by the Immigration Department from leaving the country.
“We were blacklisted by Immigration on the advice of the police,” he said, adding that the police were “the pits” and that he had been instructed to present himself at Bukit Aman on Monday at 11am.
This followed his move to lodge police reports against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, his wife Rosmah Mansor, their friend Jho Low, Bank Negara Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) Chairman Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, and all the Board members of 1MDB in Lyon, France; Berne, Switzerland; London, Singapore and Hong Kong.
He said he was left with no choice but to internationalise the 1MDB financial scandal following the failure of the authorities in Malaysia to discharge their responsibilities and duties on the matter.
