The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), in tribute, renames its moot court after the late deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais. – September 19, 2015.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will, in tribute, rename its moot court after late deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais.
Deputy Commissioner of operations Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull said Morais was very dedicated in his job when he was with the MACC, and to pay tribute to his fine work, the commission will immortalise his name at the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Academy's Moot Court.
“The moot court will now be renamed the Kevin Morais Moot Court, where the Legal and Prosecution Cluster conducts training for MACC officers undergoing basic training in law and investigations,”he said in a statement today.
Shukri said a special ceremony will also be held in Morais's honour on the 48th anniversary of MACC on October 1.
Mohd Shukri Abdull said the murder of Morais was a great challenge to the MACC, but the tragedy will not break the spirit of officers in fighting corruption.
He pledged that MACC officers involved in the corruption case of a military doctor believed to have links to Morais's murder, would pursue the case with the same dedication and spirit shown by Morais.
"Following Morais's death, the prosecution of the case will be handled by a senior deputy public prosecutor now attached with MACC.
"Morais's dedication and commitment will inspire MACC officers to continue the mission to fight graft, especially in this case involving the military doctor," he said.
Morais was reported missing on September 4 after he left his Menara Duta apartment for work, but never turned up and could not be contacted since.
His remains were found 12 days later on Wednesday in a concrete-filled drum in Subang Jaya, after a suspect took police to the site.
Morais was attached with the Attorney-General's Chambers and was deputy head of the Appellate and Trial Division. He was seconded to the MACC nearly 10 years ago. He was just transferred back to the AGC in July last year.
During his service at the MACC, Morais prosecuted the case involving a military doctor attached with the Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan pathology lab, who was charged with unlawful trade in December 2013.
In September last year, the doctor, a colonel, who was on an RM100,000 bail, had claimed trial to two bribery charges involving RM700,000 for allegedly recommending three companies to supply medicine and disposable medical tools to the hospital.
