‘It was good,’ smiling Najib says after supreme council meet

Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin may be heartbroken after the party’s supreme council meeting tonight, but his boss Najib Abdul Razak is all smiles.
“It was good,” Najib briefly told reporters when asked how the meeting went.
Najib has effectively silenced dissent at this year’s Umno annual general assembly.
The supreme council has decided that only he will give a winding-up speech this year, breaking party tradition.
In past Umno assemblies, the three Puteri, Youth and Wanita chiefs, the party treasurer, secretary-general, three vice-presidents, the deputy president and the president would all give speeches to wrap up the last day of the Umno assembly.
Muhyiddin and Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal, are being sidelined after both were axed from the cabinet in July.
Both have been critical of Najib, and it’s likely that Muhyiddin’s speech on Monday derailed any chance he would get to speak at the Umno AGM.
Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said Muhyiddin may lose his position in Umno over the speech. -Mkini
