Wanita Umno has urged former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Muhyiddin Yassin and Mohd Shafie Apdal to return to the fold.
Making the plea, its chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said she does not want Malays to be “controlled” by DAP because of Umno leaders opposing party president Najib Abdul Razak.
“With all due respect to Tan Sri Muhyiddin, Datuk Seri Shafie and our father whom we respect, Tun Mahathir, be with us in Umno, right or wrong, be with Umno.
“There is no other party. Do you want to surrender the Malays and bumiputera to DAP? I am not prepared (to do so).
“Let blood flow, we won’t allow DAP to take over. Umno is weak, god forbid, our country is taken over by DAP,” she said in her winding-up speech at the Wanita Umno assembly today.
Shahrizat added that while she accepted Najib's decision to drop Muhyiddin as deputy prime minister, she still supported the latter as Umno deputy president.
"We (Wanita Umno) are very clear, we have never betrayed Najib (but) we also support Muhyiddin as deputy president," she said.
Shahrizat added that changing the deputy prime minister is Najib's prerogative.
She also made similar calls of unity to other Umno members, urging them to stick with the party and continue supporting Najib.
"Fall into ranks, fall into ranks... if you have fallen out, then fall in," she said. -Mkini
