On Friday I sort of bungled into a meeting. I was asked to attend Tun Dr Mahathir's Press Conference at 4 PM. I arrived slightly late and did not see too many Press people.
Some of the 'regulars' who were standing there gestured for me to go upstairs, which I did, thinking that was where Dr Mahathir was having the PC. One of them said "meeting sudah mula" and opened the door for me. I entered (with my son who drove) and walked into a meeting of the Deklarasi Rakyat committee, being chaired by Tun Dr Mahathir.
I was seated by the time I fully realised what was going on. People smiled, I said a quick hello, everyone was in good spirits and it was too late to reverse out. So I just sat and listened. The meeting also ended soon after. Dr Mahathir and everyone in the meeting then walked down where the Media was already waiting in the hall. Dopey me.
It was the first time I have sat in a meeting with the Theresa Kok, Salahuddin Ayub, Mahfuz Omar, Sam PKR, Husam Musa, Ambiga and others. The DAP, PKR, PAS, Amanah and NGOs were present. And that is all I am going to say about that.
Folks, one of Tun Dr Mahathir's greatest strengths is that he achieves things. Dr Mahathir is an achiever. He gets things done.
Friday's Press Conference was to reveal the fact that Dr Mahathir's Deklarasi Rakyat initiative has gathered over 1.5 MILLION signatures. In just TWO MONTHS.
The target was 1.0 MILLION signatures by the end of 2016. They have achieved 1.5 MILLION signatures seven months ahead of schedule.
Of the 1.5 MILLION, about 250,000 signatures have not been included in the tally for various reasons (no IC number, no proper name spelling, etc).
So the official count that was announced was 1.271 MILLION signatures only.
So the official count that was announced was 1.271 MILLION signatures only.
It is still a fantastic achievement. The signature campaign is still continuing and will keep on going.
Dr Mahathir intends to present these signatures to the YDP Agong and perhaps the Conference of Rulers as well for the Malay Rulers to initiate something about the scandals involving Najib Razak.
During the PC, Dr Mahathir (responding to yours truly) said that the Conference of Rulers had asked that the 1MDB scandal be investigated and reported back to them. No such thing has happened. There has been no reporting back to the Conference of Rulers about this matter.
Dr Mahathir feels confident that the YDP Agong will lend an ear because the Agong has been briefed about what is going on with Najib. So lets see what happens.
