DAP Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang is happy to be back in Parliament after being suspended for six months last October.
His arrival at the House at the start of the present session today was greeted by a gathering of DAP parliamentarians bearing a large banner reading, 'Selamat kembali Lim Kit Siang. Pantang berundur' (Don't surrender).
“I am very happy to be back after a six-month absence.
“It’s good (to be back), but I would like to hear answers from the prime minister and ministers (concerning 1MDB).
"And Parliament must do its duty on the pursuit of the true story behind the 1MDB scandal.
“Don’t allow the international press or other governments to do (the investigative work). It should be done by Malaysian authorities,” Lim said during a press conference at the Parliament lobby.
Last week Lim challenged Prime Minister Najib Razak to table the auditor-general’s report on 1MDB and a White Paper on the issue, following the latest revelations from Singapore’s investigations.
Singapore media reported last Thursday that a new charge levelled by its authorities against former private banker Yeo Jiawei has revealed SRC International's link to the 1MDB saga.
Lim was suspended last October for allegedly insulting Dewan speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.
The veteran DAP leader said in the six months that has passed, the country is nowhere nearer to finding answers to the 1MDB fiasco.
"I apologise to the people of Gelang Patah for being suspended for six months from Parliament, not because I had stolen, robbed, murdered or guilty of corruption, but because I had wanted the prime minister to answer two simple questions about his global financial scandals - where the money (in his private accounts) came from, and where the money have gone to.
"Najib as the prime minister should be in Parliament to answer the two simple questions [...] but he has scooted off to United Kingdom on very weak excuses to avoid parliamentary responsibility and accountability," he said.
Lim added he has gone to 130 parliamentary constituencies around the country during his House suspension, the lastest being Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Setiu and Besut in Terengganu and Pasir Puteh in Kelantan last week.
He claimed the various constituents he had visited all want to know the answers to the two questions he posed on the 1MDB scandal. -Mkini
