Singaporean man and companion being investigated after Indonesian woman claims she was hit with a hammer for refusing to marry the monk.
PETALING JAYA: A monk and his female companion have been arrested over an alleged assault in Kulai near here.
According to a report in Sin Chew Daily, the 53-year-old Singaporean monk serves at a temple in Kulai.
He and his companion, aged 46, allegedly assaulted an Indonesian maid with a hammer. She claimed she was assaulted after refusing to marry him.
The maid, 23, who had worked and stayed at the temple, told police she escaped after the assault and sought help from neighbours.
Kulai police said the duo were arrested last Friday following a report by the maid.
Sin Chew Daily reported that the monk was a controversial figure who had previously been criticised for adopting a three-year-old girl, breaking the rule that a monk cannot adopt a girl. He had also adopted a baby boy.
