Initial investigations by police reveal the robbers used self-made explosives to blow up the ATM.
KOTA KINABALU: Robbers blew up an automated teller machine (ATM) at a bank in Membakut, near here, and escaped with cash estimated at RM70,000, early this morning.
Beaufort police chief DSP Mohd Azmir Abdul Razak said the incident occurred around 2.15am and the police believe that more than one suspects were involved in the robbery.
“We had despatched a team to the scene as soon as we received the call from the bank. The team found the ATM destroyed when they arrived,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Mohd Azmir said initial investigations revealed that the suspects had used self-made explosives.
