K KANGSAR POLLS The police are probing PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli for criminal intimidation over his “atomic bomb” remark.
“We have opened an investigation paper under Section 506 of the Penal Code,” said Perak police chief Ab Rahim Hanafi.
He added that a statement would be recorded from the Pandan lawmaker.
This is over Rafizi’s speech at a ceramah in Kuala Kangsar on June 9, where he urged the people to vote Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) candidate Ahmad Termizi Ramli.
The opposition leader had said that if elected, Termizi, who is a nuclear physicist, would be asked to hurl an “atomic bomb” at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in Parliament.
Several local residents later lodged a police report against Rafizi.
Meanwhile, Rahim warned politicians and candidates not to utter the word “bomb” even in a joking manner.
“Yes, even if this is a joke, this is intimidation,” he said.
He further advised candidates and politicians who speak at ceramah not to make provocative statements.
He also told them not to touch on race and religious issues that could threaten peace and security.
Yesterday, Rafizi said he hoped the police would see the humour in his comments, failing which it could pave the way for the “funniest court trial”.

Meanwhile, Rahim, who was visiting the Kuala Kangsar police quarters where early voting was taking place, said it was the most peaceful by-election he had handled so far.
"I have gone through seven general elections as a senior officer and five by-elections as state police chief in Kelantan, Penang and Perak.
"I found that the Kuala Kangsar by-election is good, the best, in my opinion," he added.
