K KANGSAR POLLS The Election Commission (EC) does not see any problem in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak giving RM500 to rubble tappers and smallholders during the by-election campaign, said its member Abdul Aziz Khalidin.
Similarly, he said the EC has no issue wih both MCA and Gerakan giving out rice, and Pakatan Harapan supporters giving out vegetables to the voters.
“From our point of view, we do not see any problem until now, (we) do not see anything going against the (election) regulations.
“This depends of the interpretation of every party,” he said after monitoring the early voting process at the Kuala Kangsar police quarters this morning.
During his campaign in Kuala Kangsar, Najib had asked the people to fulfil his wish and support BN after giving out RM500 to rubber tappers and smallholders.
“I have fulfilled your wishes, ladies and gentlemen, so I ask you to fulfil just one wish of my own.
“My wish is for you to help support the BN candidate. That’s all (sikit sahaja),” Najib had said when he arrived at Kuala Kangsar to campaign for BN candidate Mastura Mohd Yazid.
The aid is to be given to 388,111 eligible small rubber farmers nationwide.
The prime minister said these comprised 307,770 business operators and 80,341 rubber tappers, each of whom will receive RM500.
BN has been criticised for using election goodies and development cards to woo supporters.
The Sarawak state election saw BN handing out at least RM382.8 million worth of development projects and goodies. - Mkini
