Be fair with Rayani Air, Nufam tells DCA

The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) should have suspended Rayani Air's Air Service Licence (ASL) instead of revoking it, said the National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam).
Nufam said the syariah-compliant airline should be given time to restructure its operations, adding that the problems it faced were not unique.
"Rayani Air is not the only company to have faced such troubles, indeed other large airlines have gone through similar issues," Nufam said in a statement.
It said other airlines that failed to pay wages and allowances to their staff were still given the chance to continue their operations.
"Authorities shouldn't play favourites even if some who may not want Rayani Air to prosper are pushing for the airline to be closed down.
"Maybe there are better alternatives instead of just shutting down the company," said Nufam.
The union urged DCA to be fair and transparent in dealing with the issue "because Rayani Air's management may not be as well-connected as other airlines".
It union also suggested that Rayani Air's administration engage a third party to mediate and resolve its problems, instead of resorting to the courts.
It advised Rayani Air's staff to compromise with the management for the sake of their future with the airline.

Rayani Air has been facing various bumps in the road after it was set up and went operational this year, leading to unpaid staff wages and various operational difficulties.
Its licence was revoked after the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) found it had breached the conditions of its ASL and lacked the financial and management capacity to continue operating as a commercial carrier.
The decision came after the media highlighted a slew of technical and operational problems Rayani Air was facing.- Mkini
