K KANGSAR POLLS Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called on voters in Kuala Kangsar to ensure that BN candidate Mastura Mohd Yazid loses her deposit on polling day for the by-election.
The former premier urged voters of all races to unite and cast their ballots for Parti Amanah Negara’s Ahmad Termizi Ramli instead.
“This can be done if the people of all races vote for Amanah,” he said.
Speaking to the folk in Kampung Baru Jerlun, Mahathir also lashed out at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, calling him a “mahkluk perosak negara (a pest which ruins the nation).”
The BN candidate would lose her deposit if she obtained less than 4,000 votes on June 18. The parliamentary constituency has 32,949 voters.
The seat fell vacant after Mastura’s husband and incumbent MP Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad was killed in a helicopter crash.
Apart from BN and Amanah, two others vying for the seat are PAS’ Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad and Independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
Mahathir was on his campaign trail for Amanah candidate Ahmad Termizi Ramli for the second time following the June 11 forum on 1MDB and save Malaysia.
A crowd of some 500 showed up at the Jerlun market to hear him speak.
During his 30-minutes speech, Mahathir spoke on how the RM50 billion debt incurred in 1MDB, now placed under Finance Ministry, affected the people as the government had taken away subsidies and other beneficial policies to pay the debt.
“We need to get 2,600 lorries to transport RM2.6 billion from the port to Bank Negara or AmBank,” he said.
“Can you believe an Arab give Najib this much money, it doesn’t make sense. Only fools like the Umno leaders said this was a donation,” he said to laughter.
“I think the people in Jerlun are no fools, but smart and educated. I believe you understand the bad things done by Najib,” he said.
“If you choose BN, the BN candidate does not require a brain or being educated, because he or she will only says ‘yes’ in the Dewan (Rakyat),” he said. -mkini
