Judge Hanipah Farikullah will meet all concerned parties on Sept 19 for case management, says lawyer.
KUALA LUMPUR: A former Umno leader, who is questioning the appointment of Apandi Ali as Attorney-General (AG), has filed an affidavit accompanied with a video clip of the top government lawyer dancing with several ministers during the recent Merdeka parade.
Lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, who is appearing for Khairuddin Abu Hassan, said his client had attached a letter in the court document that Apandi should resign.
Haniff said the video, which was fresh evidence, was filed two days ago although the High Court had fixed Nov 19 to deliver its ruling on Khairuddin’s judicial review application.
“In view of the latest development, judge Hanipah Farikullah will meet us and the government lawyers on Sept 19 for case management,” he said.On Monday, Khairuddin and several others had gone to the AG’s Chambers in Putrajaya to deliver a letter and demand for Apandi’s resignation after a video clip went viral on social media showing him dancing with senior ministers.
Khairuddin had earlier filed a judicial review application to set aside Apandi’s decision on Jan 26 that there was no criminal offence committed by Prime Minister Najib Razak over three investigation papers filed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
The former Batu Kawan Umno division vice-chief also questioned Apandi’s directive to the MACC to close the probes and his refusal to give assistance to investigators to collect evidence outside Malaysia.
He is also challenging the appointment of Apandi, a former Federal Court judge, as attorney-general, replacing Abdul Gani Patail in July last year.
Khairuddin wants a court order for a special commission to be set up to study and determine further action on the outcome of the three investigation papers.
Former Minister Zaid Ibrahim and the Malaysian Bar Council have filed similar judicial review applications and Hanipah is expected to deliver judgment on Nov 19.
