MCA Youth secretary-general Leong Kim Soon has criticised Umno minister Nazri Abdul Aziz for lacking the BN spirit and called on him to quit the ruling coalition.
In a media statement, he also accused the tourism and culture minister of creating a rift between BN component parties.
Claiming that Nazri often shared the same stage with opposition parties, Leong said that BN leaders are peeved with the Umno minister.
He also zeroed in on Nazri’s remark that he is closer to DAP than MCA because the former can garner the Chinese community’s support.
Leong said such remarks reveal that the Padang Renggas MP is not fit to represent BN.
Turning the clock back to the 1999 general election, he reminded Nazri that it was the votes cast for Chinese-based component parties which kept BN in power following the split in Umno triggered by the sacking of Anwar Ibrahim.
"BN component parties didn't make fun of Umno during that period.
“If Nazri doesn't understand the BN spirit or thinks he can win the election because of his charisma alone, he can contest as an independent in the coming general election.
“He is welcomed to rejoin BN if he wins,” added the MCA Youth leader.
The latest salvo comes amid MCA information chief Chai Kim Sen urging party leaders to exercise restraint in their statements and not to hurt the feelings of other BN parties.
According to Oriental Daily News, Chai said it is currently a “hot political season” since MCA and Umno divisions are holding their annual meetings. -Mkini
