A lawyer, who once served Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Ismail, now wants the Johor Criminal Sessions Court to subpoena the monarch as a witness.
Kamal Hisham Jaafar is requesting that the sultan assist with the proceedings in which Kamal Hisham has been charged with criminal breach of trust and other charges under the Companies Act 1965
His lawyer Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz filed the subpoena request and informed the court of the matter this morning.
The petition, which Malaysiakini had sighted, provided 31 undisclosed reasons as to why Sultan Ibrahim should be called as a witness.
"The judge did not make any ruling as the filing had just been made," said Mohd Khairul.
The case against Kamal Hisham began yesterday.
Kamal Hisham is now trying to shift the trial to Kuala Lumpur, where the former lawyer believes he would be accorded a fair hearing.
He had previously claimed that he could no longer live in Johor and that he fears for his safety.- Mkini
