A 15-year-old student drowned after he was believed to have suffered cramps while bathing in a river with three friends in Kampung Kor near Nilam Puri in Kota Baru today.
Ketereh Fire and Rescue station operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Halim Mat Zin said Muhammad Danial Asyraf Muhammad Zulkhairol Adha was swimming in the river when he sufferred cramps and disappeared in the river at about 1.30pm.
Villagers found the boy, a student at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kampung Kor, at about 2pm and sent him to the Perol Health Clinic where he was pronounced dead at 2.53pm, he said.

Meanwhile, in Bachok, the body of Maahad Tahfiz Sains Al-Muhammadi Kampung Nipah student, Ilham Mohd Hafiz, 15, who disappeared while bathing at Pantai Kampung Nipah yesterday, was found at Pantai Irama at about 10.30am today.
East Region Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director First Admiral Mamu Said Alee said the search for another student, Mohd Aiman Che Hashim, 15, would continue.
He advised the public against bathing in the sea during the monsoon season due to the rough sea condition and strong current.
