Lawyer Americk Sidhu says client changed his mind and will appeal against decision not to grant leave to initiate judicial review to challenge AG.
PETALING JAYA: Former de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim has joined two others to appeal against the refusal of the High Court to grant him leave to initiate judicial review on a RM2.6 billion “donation” case.
His counsel Americk Sidhu said his client had changed his mind and filed the notice of appeal before the 30-day deadline expired last month.
“The Court of Appeal has fixed the case management for sometime this week,” Americk said.
On Nov 11, Justice Hanipah Farikullah denied leave to Zaid, the Bar Council and former Batu Kawan Umno deputy chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan.
A disappointed Zaid told reporters then that he would not appeal.
“There are things we don’t want to do,” he had said at the time.
The trio had wanted to challenge Attorney-General (AG) Mohamed Apandi Ali’s decision to close the case over the RM2.6 billion “donation” deposited in the prime minister’s bank accounts.
The AG had allegedly directed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to close investigations into the case.
Zaid had filed the application to seek leave for judicial review on Feb 2, 2016.
Meanwhile, lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, representing Khairuddin, said his client had filed his memorandum of appeal on the matter.
“We have filed the relevant documents for the appeal and are waiting for the High Court judge to provide us the grounds of his judgment,” he said. -FMT
