DAP MP concerned about Zahid’s involvement in RoS dispute

DAP's Kulai parliamentarian Teo Nie Ching has questioned Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s seemingly close involvement in her party's issues with the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
Her concerns come after Zahid called on DAP leaders to cease speculation that the party might be outlawed by the RoS, and said that he would be meeting with director-general of the RoS Mohammad Razin Abdullah on this matter next week.
“If indeed there is no conspiracy to de-register DAP, why does RoS need to meet Zahid to discuss the fate of DAP?” Teo asked in a statement today.
Although Zahid, who is also home minister, denied any attempts to dissolve DAP, she asked why the director-general of the RoS needed to prepare a written report for the minister.
“Why can’t the RoS make the decision based on DAP’s party constitution and the laws of Malaysia?
“Did the RoS report to Zahid over matters involving other societies registered in Malaysia? Why this special treatment for DAP?” she questioned.
DAP’s status as a party is reportedly in limbo after its 2012 party election was disputed due to irregularities.
However, Teo pointed out that the RoS had conceded in court that it recognised the DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) in 2013.

DAP also had a re-election of its CEC in the same year, she said.
“Zahid claimed that the RoS would act professionally.
“Why is it so difficult to 'come to a final decision' on the appeal by DAP? What type of professionalism requires four years to come to a final decision?” she asked.
Zahid previously said that the RoS had received a letter from DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, asking it to accept those who were elected at the previous party elections as valid office bearers.
The deputy prime minister added that he had yet to obtain an explanation from the RoS in order to come to a final decision on DAP’s appeal, and as such hoped to obtain a written report from the RoS’ director-general at their meeting next week.- Mkini
