Ku Nan warns civil servants about 'curse' of leaking gov't secrets

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has reminded civil servants not to leak classified government information.
The minister said he is worried the civil servants would termakan sumpah (be cursed) due to the oath taken before assuming their positions.
“I am asking civil servants... all of whom have taken an oath. Don't be cursed because of this. If it is a government secret, don't spread it,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
Responding to a question, Tengku Adnan, who is also Umno secretary-general, said action would be taken against those who disclosed party information as well.
“When Umno holds certain meetings, we do not allow them (those who attend) to spread what happened at the meeting.
“If it is a closed meeting, we would take action (on those who leak information),” he added.

Tengku Adnan, who is better known as Ku Nan, was asked to comment on a Berita Harian article, which noted the rise of incidents involving civil servants misusing social media.
In a column published in the daily today, National Institute of Public Administration (Intan) senior research fellow Abdul Gapar Abu Bakar said civil servants were exposing classified information, giving a negative impression of their respective agencies.
He also said there were civil servants who derided and insulted their colleagues in the administrative and managerial levels due to dissatisfaction over certain decisions. -Mkini
