PETALING JAYA: The public has been reminded that the holiday for Awal Muharram 1439H (Maal Hijrah) for this year has shifted from Thursday, Sept 21, to Friday, Sept 22.
The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) confirmed yesterday that there are no changes to the statement it issued in January on the change.
Its director-general Tan Sri Othman Mustapha said the change was made after a technical error was identified by Jakim’s Panel of Astronomy Experts when they rechecked the data for the month of Zulhijjah 1438H earlier this year.
“It is informed that the date for 1 Muharram 1439H has changed in the calendar from Sept 21 to Sept 22, 2017,” he said in the statement.- Star
