WILL NEW IGP ALSO CANCEL GE14, CITING ‘IS THREAT’? MILITANTS PLANNING TO DISRUPT BEER FESTIVAL, SAYS TOP COP

PETALING JAYA – The Better Beer Festival was not allowed to go on because the police have “security concerns” involving militants who were planning to sabotage the event.
Inspector-General of police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun (pix) said the police received information that militants and some unknown group plan to disturb the event.
“A security concern was raised following the information received by our intelligence, and to avoid any untoward incidents the police has to step up.
“The people’s safety safety is our utmost concern,” Mohamad Fuzi said in a statement today.
On Monday, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said it had rejected the organiser’s application to hold the event after receiving an application for a permit on Aug 28.
The DBKL announcement came a week after PAS central committee member Dr Riduan Mohd Nor spoke out against the event, calling it a vice party.
He claimed that it would turn Kuala Lumpur into the “largest vice centre in Asia”.
Earlier, the organiser of the Better Beer Festival said that it would appeal to DBKL to reconsider its rejection of its event, saying that it has put security measures in place.
On Wednesday, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the matter had been brought up at Cabinet, which was told that the event was cancelled because of security concerns expressed by the police.
He told reporters who met him at his ministry after the Cabinet meeting that the views of the police and the authorities had to be accepted.
