Umno supreme council member Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has denied the claim that many cases of khalwat (close proximity) occur every time the Umno AGM comes around.
The claim was made by former Klang Umno Puteri committee member Wan Asshima Kamaruddin, who said she had seen such "immoral" acts occurring in her 17-year experience in the party.
Asyraf Wajdi said that she should be punished if unable to back up her claim with proof.
“This is a slanderous claim and must be backed up by evidence. Islamic principles require those making allegations to bring forward their proof on the matter.
“If not, she must be punished for slander,” Asyraf told Malaysiakini.

Wan Asshima (photo), who is now a PAS member, stated that she was revealing the matter now because she no longer wanted to abet the acts allegedly occurring at the Umno AGM.
She also challenged the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) to carry out raids at the hotels in Kuala Lumpur during the Umno AGM, which is scheduled to take place from today until Saturday at the Putra World Trade Centre.
Wan Asshima’s claim was published by PAS mouthpiece Harakah Daily on its website yesterday. However, checks by Malaysiakini has found that the article has since been removed.
Malaysiakini is awaiting a response from Harakah Daily on the matter.- Mkini
