A total of 1,000 1Malaysia People’s Shop (KR1M) 2.0 outlets will be opened around the Klang Valley by the end of this year.
Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister Hamzah Zainudin said the ministry planned to have 3,000 outlets nationwide by 2020.
So far, 50 KR1M 2.0 outlets have began operating.
"For the opening of KRIM 2.0, we will continue to collaborate with KK Mart as a strategic partner to supply goods at cheaper prices, besides inviting more suppliers to participate to ensure there is sufficient stock at all times.
"The shops (KR1M 2.0) will use labels such as 'KK Mart KR1M 2.0' to differentiate themselves from other retail outlets," he told reporters after officiating the first series of the Student Entrepreneurship Programme (1st STEP) here, today.
Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan was also present.
The 1st STEP programme organised by the Companies Commission Malaysia (SSM) aims to foster interest in entrepreneurship among school students.
