Abang Johari: Sarawak, federal gov't in process of discussing MA63

Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Abang Openg said discussions with the federal government on the state’s rights under the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63) is now in its second phase.
“We are still in discussions, phase two, which involves the legal aspect between the federal and state government.
“The two sides are discussing that,” he said to reporters after officiating the launch of Yayasan Sarawak’s new office in Kuala Lumpur today.
Previously, Johari had reportedly said that Sarawak will only negotiate the devolution of power to the state with the deputy prime minister or “any senior minister with authority,” and not with Putrajaya’s technical committee.
The technical committee was headed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri and Foreign Minister Anifah Aman.
Johari stated that he has expressed this sentiment to the federal government.
“As a result of that, there is a detailed discussion between the two chambers, our state attorney-general’s chambers and the federal attorney-general’s chambers.
“That’s the result of the understanding. Because you have to discuss the details, many details,” he added.
On the floods in Sarawak, Johari also said that he will be visiting the areas affected next Monday.
As of noon today, a total of 5,679 people have been affected by the floods, with victims evacuated to 31 relief centres across the state.- Mkini
