Husband-and-wife team caught for breaking into 70 homes

break-in

GEORGE TOWN: Penang police detained a husband and wife for their alleged involvement in 70 house break-in cases involving luxury homes in several states during a raid in Klang last Saturday.
State police chief A Thaiveegan said the couple, aged 35 and 38, were picked up at their rented condominium unit in Klang about 5pm following intelligence and surveillance conducted by the Penang police.
“The police have initially received a report lodged by a businessman over a house break-in at his condominium unit in Jelutong here on Jan 31. Subsequently, we launched a manhunt and managed to arrest the couple.
“Based on initial investigations, they are suspected to be involved in such cases at luxury condominiums and bungalows in several states, including Penang, with three other men, aged between 30 and 40,” he told a press conference here today.
Thaiveegan said the two admitted to be involved in 70 house break-ins in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Kedah and Penang since 2015. Twenty cases were in Penang.
Police seized cash, jewellery, expensive handbags and watches, and mobile phones. Also found was a taser gun and pawnshop receipts for items worth more than RM300,000 in total, he added. -FMT
