PAS members who do not vote for party are unworthy: Hadi

PAS members who refuse to vote for PAS are unworthy to be in the party, said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

However, the Marang MP believes that his current party members will be loyal the party.

"PAS members are loyal to the party. They must be loyal to the party. If they are not, then they are not worthy of being PAS members.

"PAS members will support and vote for PAS," he told Malaysiakini in an interview at the PAS headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Hadi was asked to respond to the move by Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar who in December last year quit PAS after 34 years.

Mahfuz had claimed that even though disgruntled PAS members will remain in the party, they are most likely to vote for Pakatan Harapan in the coming general election.

Several top leaders had quit PAS in 2015 over disagreements on the party's direction.

They then formed splinter party Amanah which is now a component of opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan, the successor of Pakatan Rakyat which PAS was a member of.

PAS plans to act as a third force in the next polls, forming its own Gagasan Sejahtera coalition. -Mkini
