'Whoever did this to my baby is worse than an animal'

GOMBAK: "She can't even bear the pain of a needle prick, I can't imagine how she must have had suffered when... (she was attacked with a vegetable knife)," said M.Letchumy, the mother of D.Tharani murdered by her alleged boyfriend.
The inconsolable mother who did not move from the side of her daughter D.Tharani's coffin during the funeral today repeatedly kept saying "why, why must you leave us all soon?. "
Speaking to the New Straits Times before the final rites at her home here at Bandar Baru Selayang Letchumy said Tharani was the youngest of three girls and the most pampered in the family.

"How could anyone do this to her? Whoever did this to my baby is worse than an animal," she said before breaking down in tears.
She said Tharani look disturbed recently and it was just three weeks ago she had told a cousin that she was having problems at work but did not elaborate.
"We just found out about it, when the cousin told us yesterday. The cousin said she also did not probe Tharani on it because she thought it was work stress," she said.
Letchumy said Tharani too had avoided the topic of marriage everytime they brought it up, saying she just wanted to take good care of them.
"You kept saying that you would be the one to take care of us when we grew old but now we are the one who is sending you off first," wailed the 59-year-old mother of three as the hearse left the house.
Letchumy and Tharani's two elder sisters, D. Sivagamy and D. Gunavathy were inconsolable throughout the funeral rites.
Her two elder sisters had moved out after getting married so Tharani lived alone with her parents.
On Monday Tharani was killed by a man claiming to be her boyfriend at the parking lot of a hypermarket in Kota Damansara.

The suspect who worked in the same place as the victim since November had earlier gone for lunch with her to the hypermarket and bought a few household items including a vegetable knife.
However, it is learnt that as they were returning to the victim’s car, she told him that she intended to marry another man.
The news caused the man to grab the kitchen knife they had just bought and he stabbed her with it on her neck.
He then drove his car with the deceased to the Damansara police station and turned himself in.
On Tuesday, her uncle who only wanted to be known as Manimaran had said that his niece could have been trying to avoid the suspect, whos her colleague by making up a story she was going to get married.
He was reported saying that she too had no interest in marriage and neither did the family make any plans for it.
The Petaling Jaya Magistrate Court yesterday had order a seven days remand on the 37-year-old suspect.
Police have also collected the CCTV recordings from the hypermarket where the victim was allegedly murdered on Monday.
It is learnt that the suspect who is a divoiced with a child had been showing interest and harassing her since she joined the company as a admin clerk in November, where he had been working for 10 years.
Tharani's remains were cremated at the Sentul Hindu Crematorium this evening.
