Asyraf to win Umno Youth chief post after close race

Former deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki is set to win the Umno Youth chief post after a close race between three top candidates.
Unofficial results as of 4.30am place Asyraf in the lead, having secured the votes of 73 of 191 divisions, with results from only two divisions left unaccounted for.
Senator Khairul Azwan Harun – popularly known as ‘Azwanbro’, and a top lieutenant for presidential candidate Khairy Jamaluddin – is in second place with the votes of 58 divisions
Pahang Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah is in third place with the support of 56 divisions, while red shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos has bagged just two divisions.
It is not entirely clear which Umno camp Asyraf is aligned to.
He is an outsider to the Umno youth hierarchy, and was previously a supreme council member.
Asyraf’s win would indicate no clear favourite that the presidential race between Khairy, party veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, and former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Last night, it was Tengku Razaleigh's camp that was struck after key supporter Bastien Onn lost to Shahril Hamdan, who is aligned to Khairy.
Unofficial results as of 1am placed Shahril far in the lead with 113 divisions behind him, with 20 for Bastien.

Official results for the Umno Youth, Wanita, and Puteri elections will be announced at 5pm.
Elections for the Umno presidency and other top posts will be held on June 30. - Mkini
