DAP's Liew Chin Tong will file an election petition in the High Court in Johor Bahru tomorrow to challenge Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat result.
In the recently concluded election, Liew lost to MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong by a razor-thin 303 majority of votes in the battle royale for Ayer Hitam in central Johor.
“The details will be revealed at a press conference by 12pm, after the petition is filed,” Liew, who is Johor DAP chief, told Malaysiakini.
He added that former Bar Council chairperson Yeo Yang Poh would handle his case.
On May 21, Liew hinted he may challenge the result should sufficient legal basis be obtained.
The Election Commission announced the election result has been gazetted on May 28. Any candidate dissatisfied with the result may file a petition within 21 days of the gazetting, which means the last day for the filing is June 18.
DAP's M Manogaran has filed an election petition to nullify the outcome of the result for Cameron Highlands. He alleged that the victor, C Sivaraajh of MIC, had bribed and threatened the voters. Mkini
