Selangor Local Government, Public Transportation and New Village Development state executive councillor Ng Sze Han has confirmed to StarMetro that the talk is not true.”
It was speculated that tenure of the current batch of councillors would be extended until December, which would be after the respective party elections, to facilitate appointment of their preferred candidates.
Ng dismissed the speculations, insisting that “councillorship is not linked to party elections.”
He added that the component parties in Pakatan Harapan had been told to submit their respective lists of proposed candidates for all 12 local councils to the state government by this week.
Selangor Parti Amanah Negara chief Izham Hashim said the party had finalised all 49 names for its party quota and submitted the list today.
“All of our candidates are carefully selected based on their academic background, work experience, party position and time commitment. An important criterion is that they reside in the municipality where they are selected to serve,” he said.
The names are expected to be finalised and endorsed in the next executive council meeting which will be held at the end of this month. The new batch of councillors will report for duty in July.-Star
