PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has rejected an offer for Malaysian investigators to interview wanted Penang-born businessman Low Taek Jho in Dubai, according to the Wall Street Journal.
A report in the US financial daily today said Low, who is better known as Jho Low, had told the task force investigating 1MDB yesterday that he was willing to meet them in Dubai.
However, Mahathir had rejected the offer and the message had been passed though an intermediary, according to the report.
Low and four others are wanted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for investigations into allegations that as much as US$4.5 billion was siphoned off from 1MDB between 2009 and 2015.
News reports in the past two days have speculated that Low had sought immunity from prosecution by becoming a crown witness and testifying against those who may be put on trial for corruption, embezzlement or money-laundering. -FMT
