No more 'syok sendiri' programmes, says new Umno Youth vice-chief

Shahril Hamdan, the unofficial winner in the Umno Youth vice-chief contest, has pledged to end 'syok sendiri' (self-indulgent) programmes in a bid to restore youth support for the party.
"My main goals to attract youth support for Umno are: no more 'syok sendiri' programmes, to have more youths engage in intellectual debates with facts, and to be a progressive opposition who can provide check and balance to government policies," Shahril told Malaysiakini
The 32-year-old also congratulated Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki on his victory as Youth chief, and pledged to work with him in the party's best interests.
Unofficial results as of 1am placed Shahril far in the lead for the Youth vice-chief race, with 113 divisions supporting him, compared to the 20 in support of his closest rival Bastien Onn.
As for the Youth chief post, unofficial results as of 4.30am placed Asyraf as the clear victor, with the support of 73 divisions.
Asyraf faced stiffer competition than Shahril did in his own contest, with his closest rivals – senator Khairul Azwan Harun and Pahang Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah – securing 58 and 56 divisions respectively.
Asyraf and Shahril are expected to hold a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre at 4pm.
Official results for all Umno wing contests are expected to be announced at 5pm. -Mkini
