Perak PKR scoffs at bid by MP to defect from Umno to Bersatu

Perak PKR has scoffed at Bagan Serai MP Noor Azmi Ghazali's move to quit Umno today and his plans to join Bersatu.
Perak PKR information chief Siti Aishah Shaik Ismail claimed Noor Azmi's move was merely for his political survival.
"We are all aware that when he was in Umno, he was vocal in making sarcastic remarks that do not reflect on his standing as an elected representative and the people he represented.
"Therefore, Perak PKR is firm in holding on the principle that anyone can voice support (for Pakatan Harapan) but there is no guarantee that they will be accepted by Harapan," she said in a statement.
Aishah said Noor Azmi should use his time outside of Umno to reflect and seek forgiveness for backing the previous Umno-BN government.
She stressed that Harapan should focus on managing their governments.
Earlier today, Noor Azmi quit Umno and declared his support for Prime Minister and Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and state Bersatu chief Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is also the menteri besar.
Meanwhile, in a Bernama report, Ahmad Faizal said Perak Bersatu will leave to the party’s top leadership to decide whether or not to accept former Umno/BN leaders and members.
He said Bersatu's policy was to have all new applications to join the party to be processed and decided by the party’s supreme council.
“Any application to join Bersatu will be forwarded to the top leadership for decision,” he told reporters after attending the Harapan Hari Raya do which was attended by about 5,000 people in Tanjung Rambutan today.
Ahmad Faizal said he was not aware of the decision by Noor Azmi.
“I really did not know that he had made the decision but I am sure it was entirely his, and I thank him for showing his support to me as the menteri besar,” he added. - Mkini
