PKR being unfair to Idris, says reformasi activists

PKR is being unfair to the Ijok state assemblyperson Dr Idris Ahmad (above) following accusations he had defrauded the National Higher Education Loan Fund (PTPTN), said the group Otai Reformis 1998.
Otai Reformis member Abdul Razak Ismail said that not only had PKR neglected to inform Idris that he was not a candidate for the Selangor menteri besar post but he was also not given the opportunity to explain the allegation against him.
“We feel that the actions against Idris victimised him. I think PKR is not being fair to him.
“As a medical specialist and Federal Territories PKR chairperson, how could his own party colleagues deny him his rights?
“Why was Idris not informed earlier? Why didn’t PKR and Pakatan Harapan tell Idris that he had been replaced at the last minute?” Abdul Razak said at a press conference at Idris’ residence in Petaling Jaya today.
Idris was present at the press conference.
Asked if he had been visited or contacted by the party leadership, Idris shook his head with a disappointed look and said, “No”.
Meanwhile, a group of reformasi activists that supported Anwar when he was sacked from public office in 1998 urged PKR to explain what had transpired.
“We demand an explanation from the leadership. Don’t just give excuses hoping that he will forget and move on,” he said.
Idris was said to be among those being considered for the menteri besar post but was not selected.
When Sungai Tua assemblyperson Amirudin Shari was sworn in as the state’s new menteri besar on Tuesday, he said this was done without consensus by Pakatan Harapan parties.
A day before the swearing-in ceremony for the new Selangor menteri besar, Idris was accused of defrauding the PTPTN through a college linked to him.
He denied the allegation saying the amount allegedly involved was minor compared to his income as a gynaecologist at a private hospital. He lodged a police report on Monday. - Mkini
