Malacca Umno chief Idris Haron has explained his actions in abruptly ending his division's meeting yesterday following a motion which called for him to resign as head of Tangga Batu Umno.
Idris said the group which tabled the motion was emotional, vengeful and had made statements without facts.
"When I saw that something was amiss and filled with emotion, I as chairperson announced that the meeting would be postponed," Bernama quoted Idris as saying.
He also claimed the motion against him was an organised conspiracy to topple him.
Tangga Batu Umno deputy chief Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, in relating yesterday's events, said the motion was tabled during the divisional meeting chaired by Idris last night and attended by 30 committee members.
He said the motion called for Idris to take responsibility for BN losing power in Malacca in the May 9 general election.
He said Idris, however, ended the meeting as soon as the motion was presented by a committee member and quickly left the venue. Seven other committee members followed suit.
The remaining members, however, proceeded with the meeting and passed the motion calling for Idris to resign. -Mkini
