'Save Islamic institutions, monarchy' rally attracts 100

A rally today by a new Malay rights group Pemantau Malaysia Baru which it said would attract 2,000 proceeded without incident after about 100 people turned up at the venue near Masjid Negara.
The rally was in support of the organisation's agenda to "Save Islamic Institutions and the Monarchy".
The event in front of the Islamic Centre Complex adjacent to the National Mosque after Fwent ahead peacefully after the Friday prayers led by Pemantau head Lokman Noor Adam
The rally-goers clad in black shirts kicked off the event by reciting an oath of allegiance (lafaz sumpah Baiah) to defend Islamic Institutions and the monarchy.
The recital then continued with a promise to defend the rights of the Malays and other bumiputera.
Some of the participants were seen holding a banner which an image of veteran journalist A Kadir Jasin stamped with a shoe print and the words "Jangan Kurang Ajar" on it.
Other banners bore the wordings "Daulat Tuanku" and "Jangan Perlecehkan Raja-raja Melayu" (Do Not Belittle the Malay Rulers).
The rally-goers also chanted "Hidup Islam" and "Hidup Melayu".
About a half-an-hour into the event, a man approached Lokman and questioned him on the rationale behind the rally.
Some upset rally-goers were then seen provoking the man by pushing him before he was escorted away by police who were present at the scene.

The rally participants dispersed shortly after.
In announcing the rally on Tuesday, Lokman told a press conference today that more than 100 NGOs have agreed to take part in the rally and he estimated that there will be about 2,000 participants.
Lokman was formerly the Finance Ministry strategic communications head. He is also a candidate for the Umno supreme council elections later this month.
Kadir Jasin, meanwhile, was in the spotlight after he became embroiled in a controversy over his blog post which touched on the personal expenditure of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Kadir had claimed that RM256.9 million was spent on Sultan Muhammad V between January 2017 and April this year. - Mkini
