Stop 'bodek' culture, says MACC chief

MACC chief Mohd Shukri Abdull has urged civil servants, including the top officers, to stop "bodek-bodeking (brown-nosing) and instead display the necessary courage to provide the correct advice to their superiors.
"My warning to civil servants is this: From now onwards, stop bodek-bodeking. A minister doesn't have the power to award projects. They only formulate policies.
"The secretary-general of the ministry and head of departments must say no. Do not bodek. Don't be a yes man. It is better to be ditendang (kicked) as long as we do what's right," he told Sinar Harian.
He said that the government must be appreciative of civil servants who execute their duties with integrity and not be a brown-noser.
"If someone speaks the truth, reward the person. The kaki bodek has to be removed because brown-nosers are destroying our country. You can be angry, but I'm speaking the truth.

"It is difficult to be honest but it is worth it. If you don't have that courage, don't be a secretary-general to the ministry or head of a department," he said.
