Cops raid Najib’s ‘safe house’
POLICE this afternoon raided a ‘safe house’ in Putrajaya believed to be linked to former prime minister Najib Razak.
The Malaysian Insight learnt the bungalow serves as senior government officers’ quarters. Located in Precinct 10, where the residents are chiefly senior government and ministers, the bungalow is near Seri Perdana, the prime minister’s official residence.
According to neighbours, the last occupant was Najib’s former private secretary Shukry Mohd Salleh who was appointed Bank Rakyat chairman in January last year.
The bungalow has not been occupied since.
Stacks of boxes could be seen in living room today as police sifted through the contents.
The team conducting the operation is from the federal police commercial crime investigation department (CCID), which had previously raided several premises linked to the former prime minister.
In a raid at the unit in Pavilion Residences in Kuala Lumpur, police seized RM114 million in 26 foreign currencies. They also seized 37 luggage bags containing jewellery and other valuables.
The raiding party left the bungalow today at 3.10pm in five cars and a van. Putrajaya auxiliary cops are left to guard the premises and it is unclear if the CCID team will return.
CCID director Amar Singh Ishar Singh confirmed his men raided the property, who were acting with the authority granted by the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001. – THE MALAYSIAN INSIGHT
