Amanah leaders to pressure Mat Sabu to send aide on leave

Amanah leaders are expected to raise the issue of party president Mohamad Sabu's aide at a leadership meeting next month, and press for the officer to go on leave.

This is over claims that the aide, who was declared bankrupt four years ago, had RM800,000 in debt cleared for him by interested parties allegedly with the expectations of favours from the Defence Ministry.

"This matter will surely be raised at Amanah's meeting on Sept 4. If Amanah Youth does not raise it, surely other leaders will raise it.

"For now, we ask that he goes on leave," Amanah Youth chief Mohd Sany Hamzan told Malaysiakini.

However, Sany stressed that the aide is innocent until proven guilty.

The aide is currently the subject of an investigation by the MACC.

Mohamad had pledged that the government will not interfere in the commission's investigation.

"I am ready to give my full commitment and cooperation to MACC. For me, there should be no compromise when it comes to integrity.

"If there is any case, MACC can charge the individual concerned in accordance with existing legal channels," he had said.
