DEMORALIZED ZAHID ALREADY WAVING THE WHITE FLAG? NO ‘DAYDREAM’ SHADOW CABINET FROM BN, SAYS OPPOSITION LEADER

BARISAN Nasional will not have a shadow cabinet in Parliament but will have dedicated members from the opposition to deal with specific issues, said Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
The opposition leader said each member from Umno and PAS will be given portfolios according to their qualifications.
“This does not mean they are not free to speak on other topics. We have promised to be a constructive opposition and we intend to do this,”   he said in Parliament’s lobby.

BN won’t have ‘daydream Cabinet’, says Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: The Barisan Nasional (BN) will not have a shadow Cabinet in Parliament but will have its members deal with specific issues, according to opposition leader Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said this method is better as they can focus on the issues and not form what he called a “daydream Cabinet”.
“We have arranged a list of MPs from BN and PAS and they will focus solely on specific issues assigned to them,” he said at the Parliament lobby today.
“They are free to touch on other issues as well, since we aim for and have promised to be a constructive Opposition,” he said.
The Shadow Cabinet is a feature of the Westminster parliamentary system of government, of an alternative Cabinet to the government, led by the Opposition Leader.
A Shadow Minister will mirror the Cabinet minister’s portfolio, usually scrutinising the government’s policies, and offering alternative policies.
It is practised in many Commonwealth countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and also those that are not, such as neighbouring Thailand, Japan, and Italy.
Previously, Pakatan Rakyat and Pakatan Harapan did not form a Shadow Cabinet when themselves were the Opposition. THE SUNDAILY
