MALAYSIA is regressing to the 1990s under Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is pursuing policies detrimental to the economy and state of race relations, said Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa.
The Ketereh MP said the policies implemented by Pakatan Harapan were populist and would affect the socioeconomic state in the long run.
“They have started doing a lot of damage to the economy, race relations and, I think, this is something that is very serious. Mahathir is bringing back the era of 1990s, he is going back to the system where one man runs the show,” Annuar told The Malaysian Insight in an interview to mark PH’s 100 days in power.
“The executive is putting hands everywhere without respecting the separation of powers. The rule of law has a very bad start where political appointees have become the order of the day,” he said.
Annuar also slammed some policies which go against PH’s manifesto, citing the failure to fulfil the pledge to appoint the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief and attorney-general by Parliament.
“Before this, they promised all these appointments to be done by Parliament to prevent less political involvement. From what we can see, this happening every day, I have not seen anything positive so far,” Annuar added.
The former Mara chairman also warned that the economy will suffer if PH’s continues to pursue its populist policies for short-term gains.
“In terms of economy, the reserve is shrinking. The strength of our currency is deteriorating.
“End of the day, you fail to deliver especially the basic needs, you will just jump back into the vicious cycle. I have not seen anything so far except for a few populist approaches.”
Barisan Nasional lost power after 60 years when Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad led PH to victory in the elections on May 9.

You are no economist Dato Annuar. What happen to Mara under your care. You allowed third party to purchase property and sell to MARA. PH only 100 days old and I can see all Government MP is seriously trying their best to clean the mess left behind by BN and in their honest way to implement the best policies for the people and for the nation. Malaysian is lucky to get rid of BN full of corruption and abuse of power which is a fact that cannot be denied. Not all people are blind and uneducated. You think all of you can insult our inteligent but actually you are insulting your own by doing that. Dato Annuar you and all your coleague are tainted with dark soul. It takes oneself strong will to clean it. You can start to be the first one for your own good. This is only my personal advice where you dont have to heed. Oh yes one more thing. You must not only change but must be seen change. Do not hunt with the hound and run with the hare. That is not change that is hyprocrite.
ReplyDeleteIni bai annuar musa cakap macam rakyat Malaysia ni tak pergi sekolah. I was born in the 60's. Dr.Mahathir in the 70's had given Malaysians the educations we needed that Malaysia in the 90's grew and grew and grew until he left office in 2003. Yes we did doubt the official economic figures released, but Malaysia grew and grew and grew. If Mahathir had his way, annuar musa would have never made it to setiausaha agong umno. Dia bodoh, kolot, hipokrit. Umno ni pun dah sebaiknya dimatikan terus kalau nak pilih setiausaha agong macam ku nan & annuar musa.
