Fahmi Fadzil denies leaving Lembah Pantai for Seri Setia

The PKR MP says a news report that he is likely to vacate his seat to make way for Anwar Ibrahim is not true.
Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil says he is not aware of any move for him to contest the Seri Setia by-election.
KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil has denied a news report that he was likely to vacate his seat to contest in the Seri Setia by-election.
A PKR source was cited as saying that Fahmi could be named the PKR candidate to contest the Seri Setia by-election.
The source said the plan was for Fahmi to vacate his current Lembah Pantai seat to make way for PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim to contest and gain entry into Parliament.
Speaking to FMT, Fahmi said there was no such thing.
“No one told me anything. If it were true, I would have been been informed by now.
“If there was such a plan, I would be on my way to the event (announcing of candidate) tonight.
“But I’m still here (Parliament), right?” he said.
Fahmi added that if at all there were such plans, he would abide by the party orders.
“But as of now, that is not true. What the papers have reported are not true,” he said.
The news report said Fahmi would also be appointed as a state executive councillor if he won the Seri Setia seat.
The Seri Setia state seat fell vacant after incumbent assemblyman and Selangor executive councillor Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin passed away on Aug 2 after a battle with cancer.
Deputy Prime Minister and former PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is scheduled to announce the candidate and launch the by-election machinery at Desa Mentari tonight.
The PKR candidate will face off with PAS’ Dr Halimah Ali, the former Selat Klang assemblyman, who was also an exco member in the Selangor state government after the 2008 general election.
She lost the Selat Klang seat by 500 votes to Selangor PPBM chief Abdul Rashid Asari in the recent general election. -FMT
