The Auditor-General's Department will be taken out of the Prime Minister's Department and put under a parliamentary select committee.
Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the cabinet in a special meeting on anti-corruption today agreed to set up a select committee in a move to lessen the prime minister and the government's power concerning execution of anti-corruption exercise in the country.
He said the committee would also decide on the appointment of auditor-general and members of MACC, and budget allocation for the two bodies.
