RM3.5m graft case rocks PM's Dept's security team


The MACC arrested 17 security personnel at the Prime Minister's Department on suspicion of misusing RM3.5million in allocations meant for the 14th general election.
The arrests were made yesterday and all 17 were remanded this morning for five days under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which concerns the use of office or position for gratification.
The 17, comprising, a senior security officer with the rank of grade 52 and 16 security guards, were suspected of using the funds for personal purposes.
A source said the individuals, aged between 31 to 51 years old, were arrested separately between 2.45pm to 3.15pm at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.
MACC deputy commissioner (operations) Azam Baki confirmed the arrests.
The commission also seized RM840,7000 in cash and nine motorcycles worth around RM90,000 owned by the suspects.
The five-day remand was issued by magistrate Siti Nabilah Abd Rashid at the Putrajaya magistrate's court this morning. - Mkini
