Umno MP: Dr M only deserves 30pct approval rating from Malays

An Umno lawmaker has cast aspersion on Merdeka Center's poll, which revealed that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's approval rating among the Malays was 62 percent.
“I don't think it is real. Because there is no basis, what is the basis?
“Sixty percent is high. He (Mahathir) perhaps only deserves 30 percent,” said Tajuddin Abdul Rahman when met at the Parliament lobby this afternoon.
According to the Pasir Salak MP, Malays were dissatisfied with Mahathir and Pakatan Harapan for failing to fulfil the 100-day promises and harping on BN's failures instead of expounding their policies.
Tajuddin also questioned if Merdeka Center had polled a representative sample and queried the factors the respondents voted on.
“Who are the people in the 60 percent? Maybe they are PKR people, Amanah people, Bersatu people? You survey my kawasan (area) and see?
“(You should) assess performance based on their achievements. I don’t agree if the survey is based on political sentiment,” he said.
Similarly, Pengerang MP Azalina Othman (photo) also questioned the veracity of the survey and argued that people were more biased towards Mahathir due to his political experience, and not his recent performance per se.
“It depends on how many respondents they were looking at... if the respondents were (few) then it is difficult to comment.
“But I don’t know if (the survey) is the right evaluation for leadership. When it comes to Mahathir, many trust him based on the fact that he has been the PM before.
“Of course, if he is considered more credible than untested personalities for PM, you can't blame the rakyat's bias towards him,” she added at the same venue.
'Overzealous' 100-day promises
As to how Pakatan Harapan was expected to fulfil only two of its 10 promises as the 100-day deadline approached, Azalina said this showed how challenging it was to be a government.
“It's also good that the Opposition before this is now the government, for them to understand how it is to be the government.
“It is not that easy, for there are a lot of things to evaluate, especially in a multiracial and multireligious country.
“Maybe (it's good) for them to understand that many things are not so easy,” Azalina said when asked.
The former de facto law minister added she was “disappointed” that Harapan had yet to amend the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 2017 (LRA) despite previously making much criticism about it.
“I was just waiting (for this) Parliament session to do more amendments on the LRA. I am kind of disappointed.
“When they were the Opposition they kept talking about amending all the draconian laws and I was just wondering why they are taking time (to do it),” she said, rating Harapan’s performance so far as “minus one”.
When the former BN administration amended the LRA last year, it was heavily criticised for not going far enough to outlaw the unilateral conversion of children by one parent. - Mkini

  1. If TDM only get 30% malay support then umno leaders must have left with 3% supportor maybe left with the likes of Lokman and Jamal. Oopps my mistake they temporary got PAS the berselerak, merapu party's support. Only temporary ok. The words Kafir from PAS will certainly comes back to haunt you once your coffer dried out.
