What about Dr M’s close ties with tycoons, asks Tajuddin

Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has trained his crosshairs on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s purported close relationships with several business tycoons.
“What about Mahathir’s birthday? Who sponsored his big birthday parties?
“No items (were gifted) but do you know how much was spent on a birthday party? Hundreds of thousands could be more,” he said to reporters outside the Dewan Rakyat today.
He linked two corporations to Mahathir that are infrastructure and diversified conglomerates.
Tajuddin pointed out that one of the companies close to Mahathir had received a contract for an independent power plant.
“They only had a small office thirty years ago. They became big. Why?
“Because Mahathir supported him. Of course, he (the owner) is hardworking but he got all the support (from Mahathir).
“He became a billionaire from the independent power plant,” Tajuddin claimed.
'I gave him a watch'
Earlier, Tajuddin defended former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak in regards to valuables purportedly worth up to RM1.1 billion seized from properties linked to him.
He said Najib has been in politics for a long time and had attended many events throughout his political career.
Tajuddin said he was certain Najib received many gifts from attending these events including weddings.
“I’m sure every wedding he goes to, both he and his wife get gifts.
“When Najib attended my child’s wedding, I also gave him a gift, a watch.
“But he doesn’t wear it, I also feel a bit slighted, why doesn’t he wear it.
“Over a period of time, the gifts pile up at home. In 20 years, how many gifts are there?” Tajuddin said.
He also took a jab at Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin, questioning what he knows as he’s a “young man”.
“(The press) doesn’t interview me, always interview Khairy.
“What does Khairy know, he’s a young man. He doesn’t know the history from the 90s and 80s.
“I know. I have been active in Umno since 1976,” he said.
Khairy later responded on his Twitter to Tajuddin’s question about what he knows.
“Not much,” he tweeted. - Mkini
