Anwar’s ex-aide Ezam considers contesting in Port Dickson

Former senator Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor says he needs time to consider whether to contest the by-election in Port Dickson.
SEREMBAN: Former senator Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor says several old friends in PKR and the reform movement have urged him to contest the Port Dickson parliamentary by-election against PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim.
The chairman of the Hisbah Centre for Reform said he would discuss the matter further with his friends.
“It is not right to say that I will announce my stand tonight (as reported by the media).
“I have to consider the matter as I returned from Jakarta only this morning,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Ezam said these old friends, especially those who were not aligned with Anwar, strongly urged him to contest as an independent candidate, more so after Umno announced it was staying away from the by-election.
Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, 68, of the PKR, has stepped down as the Port Dickson MP to pave the way for Anwar to contest the by-election and become an MP.
The by-election has so far also drawn the interest of PAS, Parti Rakyat Malaysia and social media personality Stevie Chan Keng Leong.
Former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Isa Samad has also announced that he would be contesting as an independent candidate.
Nomination for the by-election is on Saturday and polling is on Oct 13. -FMT
